More than 10,000 tickets were sold at the Headingley Cricket Ground during the third T20I between Pakistan and England on Sunday, May 19th, setting a new record for women’s cricket match attendance at the ground.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for Yorkshire County Cricket Club, Stephen Vaughan, was ecstatic over the record number of spectators.

“The crowd and the atmosphere around the stadium was awesome. You could feel it walking around the ground. It was a really great crowd, with people from all communities, families and children, and lots of smiling faces,” Vaughan said.

Vaughan also said that they are very proud to support the rise in women's cricket and the prospect of it is exciting.

“The rapid rise of women’s cricket both on the international and domestic fronts is very exciting – and here in Yorkshire, we are proud to support this, especially as we have the highest amount of women and girls playing cricket in the country,” he said.

Yorkshire held a celebration event and a Women and Girls’ Cricket Conference and invited former cricketers to take part in the celebrations of the day.

A few players who had represented England at some point, stayed to watch England defeat Pakistan and bag the series win.

England Women had won the match comfortably by 34 runs despite Pakistani bowlers controlling the English batters for 176 runs only.

For winning the match and subsequently whitewashing Pakistan, Vaughan also congratulated the England women’s cricket team.

“We congratulate England’s women on yesterday’s strong performance and look forward to giving the men’s side a warm welcome back to Yorkshire on Wednesday,” he said.

The Pakistani women played the first T20I of the series against England women on May 11 and lost by 53 runs. The second match of the series was played on May 17 and England won that match as well by 65 runs.
